Midnights in the Estate were usually quiet, even when someone had
insomnia, they were often found in the danger room out of the way working
out aggressions of the day, or they were in the study reading a book.
So, Ororo Munroe was quite surprised when she came downstairs for
a glass of fruit juice to find Logan standing at the sink with the lights on
pouring a familiar amber liquid down the drain.
“Logan? What in the name of the Goddess are you doing?”
He shrugged “pourin’ my beer out.”
“Why would you do that?” She looked to her friend, and team mate;
She tried to hide the sigh that was threatening to spill from her full lips as
she realized that his hair was greying a little bit giving him that salt and
pepper look, and he was getting crows feet around the eyes, it some how
made him look even more wise and distinguished, as aging often did for
men.
“Yer allergic to wheat aren’t ya? That’s what Jean told me, ya just
found out.”
She nodded, she was having stomach troubles for the last few days
and a test made her realize that her body wasn’t processing the wheat in
products properly and it was making her sick and losing weight; she
nodded “but, what does that have to do with your beer?”
“Beer’s made from: wheat, barley and hops,” he explained.
She nodded “right, so why are you pouring it out, I don’t drink beer,
Logan.”
“Yeah, but I wanna kiss ya without the risk of hurtin’ ya ‘Ro.”
She thought about all the moments that her and Logan were together;
all the opportunities they had to steal kisses, and it never happened, the
moment he had her pressed up against the door, Christmas under the
mistletoe - Jubilee almost killed him for not kissing Ororo that night.
It was just wasn’t in the cards for them to kiss or any of the other
fantasies the students thought about; She frowned “Logan, I am not sure
what else you have been dealing in other than the occasional sip of beer,
but you and I have never kissed, how is this supposed to change that? I
don’t understand.”
He leaned in and touched her lips with his.
