“Do it as if you doing it for the last time”

“Are you sure about this?” the heavily accented male voice sounded.
“Yes,” the teenager working on the computer answered. “See, it is an exact replica and I think it should work.”
“You think? It should?” the male voice squeaked slightly. “Kitty ve cannot work with that. Ve need something that will work for sure.”

“You have a better idea?” the young mutant known as Shadowcat looked up her seat at the blue-skinned teleporter standing behind her. “Kurt we have to do the best we can. I have done as much as I can. The rest is up to Jean and Beast.”
“And Forge,” Nightcrawler reminded her. “Although I agree that ve can’t just vait for him to come back. Who knows vhat will happen by then?”

“Hmmm,” Kitty nodded her head, running her fingers through her mussed hair. “We have been at this the whole night. I can’t do anything else.”
“Then we must go to Henry and show it to him,” Kurt caught hold of her shoulder.
“Wait a minute,” she cried out. “Let me finish this last trial run and then we can go.”
“Ok,” Kurt tiredly flashed his pearly whites.

-----

“What is she doing here?” the feisty girl started towards the door as she caught sight of the sleeping beauty.
“Jubilee…don’t,” Heather yanked her back. “Don’t do this. This is neither the time nor the place…”
“But,” the young girl turned around in her arms and looked up at her.
“No,” Heather silenced her. “Come let me tell you something…..”
With that, the beautiful motherly redhead led the young Asian mutant away.

“Good Morning Professor,” Jean wished her mentor as she and Scott came into the kitchen.
“Good Morning Jean, Scott,” Xavier wished them back, his face still creased in deep thoughts.
“Professor have you been able to find Forge?” Scott inquired as he filled in his morning coffee mug.
“No Scott,” Xavier shook his head. “I tried to. It seems that Forge’s latest upgrades have made him almost indistinguishable from the rest of the population. Even Cerebro can not seem to find him.”
“Hmmm,” Scott nodded his head. Taking the seat next to Jean, he slid towards her one of the two mugs he was holding; gladly accepting the breakfast ‘platter’ she had just prepared…pancakes and syrup.

“How is Henry doing?” Jean asked over a sip of her coffee. “I am sure he didn’t sleep a wink yesterday night.”
“Yes,” Xavier nodded his head. “He is continuously monitoring Wolverine’s vitals and keeping track of the minutest changes.”
“Ororo?” Scott inquired about their ‘almost’ lovelorn teammate.
“She kept both of them company,” Xavier spoke soberly. “She refused to leave. Henry finally gave in and convinced her to use the bed alongside Wolverine’s.”

**Professor** Henry’s mental call was intercepted by both the telepaths in the room, his panicked ‘voice’ setting both of their alarms off.
**Yes Henry** Xavier responded calmly.

**I would appreciate if you immediately come to the infirmary and ask Jean to accompany you. There has been a very interesting development** Henry sounded very excited….but not in a sad way.
**Hank** Jean joined the conversation, opening her link with Scott to keep him updated with everything. **Is every alright? Is Wolverine….**

**Wolverine is fine, as much as he can be in the current circumstances** The blue furry doctor went on. **However, we might have found a way to help him**
**We are on our way** Xavier steered his chair out of the door and towards the elevator, Jean and Scott walking alongside him.

“Get your men ready,” Mystique spoke into her phone. She was standing just outside hers’ and Forge’s room, disguised in a male form. It was still morning and her ‘lover’ was deep in sleep inside the room.
“They are ready,” the male answered back. “They can be there within half an hour. Do you want them now?”

“No,” the shape shifter answered forcefully. “No one makes a move until I give the green signal. We need to do it just according to our plan; otherwise it will be both our hides which he will take off and mount over his fireside.”
“He’s really got you spooked huhn,” the man gave a weak chuckle.

“Listen Toynbee,” Mystique growled. “If you want to get out of this alive, you better lay off your pathetic jokes.”
“Sure, sure,” the ‘leaping’ mutant answered, even nodding his head on his side of the phone. “As you say Raven.”
“Get your men ready and wait for my call,” Mystique instructed him as she ended the call.

“Why did Victor have to go and screw it up on this one,” she mumbled under her breath. Looking around one last time, she silently stepped into the room, closing the door as she changed into her true form.

Back in the x-mansion infirmary,

“What is it Henry?” Xavier asked the moment the three of them stepped through his lab door, surprised to see two teenagers waiting for them.
“Kitty, Kurt? What are you doing here?” Scott stepped forward. “Where is Hank?”
“He is just running some simulations,” Kurt answered for them. “Something that Kitty came up with. She found a way to get those things out of Wolverine.”

“We are not sure it will work,” the slightly shy girl flushed under the sudden and intense attention. “And Kurt helped me. We did it together.”
“I just brought in the comic relief,” he flashed his teeth, his long prehensile tale whipping around excitedly. “That, and just kept your company through the night.”
“You didn’t sleep,” Jean eyes widened and then narrowed. “You do know it is a school day.”
“I slept,” Kitty lied pathetically. “And this was important. Logan needs all the help he can get.”

The fact that Kitty used the name Logan instead of Wolverine still surprised the three adults, neither of whom used the feral mutant’s real name.

What didn’t surprise them was the fact that Wolverine gave her the permission to use his real name. It did in the beginning, but not any more. Not after seeing the way the newest mansion resident, the firecracker named Jubilee reacted towards anything related to her ‘Wolvie’, intensely protective of him.

“So, what did you find?” Scott sat down on the lab-stool lying beside her.
“Uhn, I think we should wait for Hank to come,” Kitty flinched. “He will be able to explain it better.”
“Nein,” Kurt shook his head. “You know it better than anyone. Besides it will take at least ten more minutes for the simulation to end and then he will have to check the results.”

Kitty looked towards the Professor who just gave her an encouraging smile to bolster her confidence.

Taking a deep breath, she started speaking.

“Well it was originally something we learned at school….”

----

“Hnnn…Uhmmm,” Ororo cracked her eyes open at the insistent poking at her sides.
“Get up,” Jubilee whispered tightly. “Gggeettt UP.”
“Yes Jubilation,” she straightened and sat up, her sheet falling from her shoulders and pooling at her waist.
“Its Jubilee and I need to talk to you,” the young girl said with slight annoyance and….something else. Something that Ororo could not make through her sleepy eyes.
“Yes,” she arched her upper body, stretching her muscles and cracking her cramped joints.
“Not here,” Jubilee shook her head and pointed towards Wolverine. “Not in front of him.”

Ororo nodded her head and pushed herself off the bed and walked towards the door, Jubilee close behind her.

“Yes,” Ororo asked, expecting another verbal firing from the youngster. She blamed herself for what had happened to Logan and hearing the same from the mouth of someone else, gave her sort of true realization to those thoughts.
“I am sorry,” Jubilee mumbled under her breath, her head hung to her chest.

“Pardon,” the Nubian beauty strained her ears. “I am sorry I still haven’t woken up properly.”
“I am sorry,” this time the tone was louder.
“Sorry?” Ororo wondered aloud. “For?”
“For all those things I said to you,” Jubilee lifted her hand to gesture at the ‘interaction’ of the previous day. “I shouldn’t have said those things.”

Ororo didn’t know what to say in response to these words, so she waited silently for the girl to continue.
“I was hurt for him,” Jubilee started. “He came here….” She stopped and shook her head. ‘Now is not the time for this,’ that’s what Heather had told her. “I just want to say that I am sorry. I know everything now.”
“Everything?”

“Hmmm…ummm,” she nodded. “Heather told me everything.”
“Oh,” was all Ororo could say and she was pushed back by the slam of the young body standing just before her.
“I am sorry,” Jubilee spoke against her midsection as she hugged the taller, older woman tightly. “Its…its…” her voice cracked.

Ororo sensed the tears starting to flow from the girl’s eyes, her own eyes watering up.
“I know,” she caressed the girl’s unkempt jet-black hair. “I know. I am also worried about him. But…..”

“…everything will be alright.”

-----

“Hmmm,” Xavier nodded his head as Kitty finished explaining her ‘network’ plan to her ‘audience’. “Interesting viewpoint.”
“I agree,” Jean concurred. “It makes sense that one of them, connects and controls the others. But which one?”
“I don’t know,” Kitty lowered her head. “Couldn’t pinpoint that. We did as much as we could and then brought to Henry.”

“You have done great work….both of you,” Xavier commended them. “I think your teachers will understand if you need to take today off and catch up on your sleep.”
“But ve vant to help,” Kurt piped up.
“And you have,” Scott answered in full leader mode. “But you can’t if you are mentally and physically fatigued.”
“But…” Kitty began.

“Eureka,” Henry’s excited exclamation stopped all further conversation, all eyes turning in his direction.

Back at the motel,

Mystique stood over the sleeping form of the bionic Cheyenne.

“We had some good times,” she smirked at him. “Pity…” she screwed in the silencer on her gun and…

*THUMP*

“They never last.”
